Question 286081: A team won 57 games and lost 18. What percent did the team win?
I know it is 57/75 which divided out is .76 so 76% but I don't know how to show it in proper equation form for Algebra. I need to show my work.

Question 288610: I have a question about the remaining factors.
If you have an equation of x^3+5x^2=2x-8 how do you find the remaining factors, if you know that one factor of the equation is (x+4)?
I tried out some problems, and figured out the remaining factors should be either (x+1),(x-2) or the remaining factors should be: (x-1),(x+2)........or am I wrong completely wrong?
And, could you please show me the way on HOW to figure this out? Thank you

Recently in a maths textbook I read something along the lines of (xy)^3 (can't figure out how to write it so that it comes up like a power, sorry). The answer, much to my disbelief, the answer was xy^3 (as I understand it should have been x^3y^3). I wrote it off as an error in the answering sheet (something that happens somewhat often) and moved on. Now, however, I've come to an example further in the book of a question written:
{(ab)^2}^-4
it then continues:
(ab^2)^-4 = a^-4 b^2*-4
= a^-4 b^-8
= 1/(a^4b^8)
This is confusing me beyond comprehension; how is {(ab)^2}^-4 equal to (ab^2)^-4? Is it equal, or have they made yet another stuff up? Normally I'd think my previous teacher taught me wrong faced with so much evidence, but I simply can't find any consistency, everything in the brackets is raised to the -4, why not the 2? Combined with the fact that this book has had three things in a row wrong before, I'm inclined to believe who ever wrote it was either tired or drunk.

Question 289888: I don't really know what category to put this is because our teacher doesnt explain anything. No one in the class knows how to do this problem and I'm on the verge of failing so...yeah.
1. The pressure exerted by Earth's atmosphere at sea level is about 14.7 pounds per square inch. For every mile above sea level, the pressure decreases by about 18%.
a. Write an equation for the pressure y (in pounds/sq. inch) at height x (in miles) above sea level.
b. Use a graph of the function from Exercise 1 to determine at what height the atmospheric pressure is half of what it is at sea level.
c. Find out how many more miles above the height from Exercise 2 the atmospheric pressure will be halved again.
I tried using the y=ab^x formula since that's what we were working with at the time, but I don't know how to solve it that way since there's not enough data to do the subtracting of exponents? I started it like this
y=14.7(.18)^x
y=2.646^x
and put pounds as independent (x) and pressure as dependent (y) but i don't think that's right since I have no idea where to go with this after that. Help would be amazing.

I can't type this to look right. It should be on top b to the negative 2 power over b to the negative 5 power. The entire fraction is in parenthesis with that to the negative 2 power on the top it shows. Please help me solve. thank you.
I thought you multiply so b to the positive 4 over b to the positive 4 would equal 1 but I was marked wrong.

a. $3.00 to 80 Cents B. 3km to 200m c. 4h to 45 min
Now I know you would put each in a fraction so 300/80, 3000/200 and 240/45. Do I need to reduce them also? Just not sure about that part. Thank you.
