If the equation is 3%5E%282x-1%29+=+27 then we can rewrite 27 as 3%5E3 to arrive at 3%5E%282x-1%29+=+3%5E3

Each base is the same (3), so the exponents must be equal in order for the original equation to be valid.

Once you arrive at 2x-1+=+3 it should be fairly easy to solve. I'll let the student take over from here.
