You can put this solution on YOUR website! the x-value is the independent variable, which cannot have two different dependent variable values.
The y- value is the dependent variable, a function of the independent variable, the value of which depends upon that of the x-value.There can be two different x-values that give the same y-value (as with any function).
For miles driven per gallons of gas, gas is the independent variable, and miles driven, a function of the gas amount, is the dependent variable.
