Question 998804: So I have a basic question about slope intercept. This is an equation in my book that I'm not following (I understand how to go about solving the question but not how the signs work)
This example in the book is called 'Solving a System Linear Equations:
to graph each equation, write the equation in slope intercept form.
-2y = -x-2
divide all those by -2 and we get
y=1/2x+1
what I don't understand is how 2 divided by -2 equals positive one in the answer? I thought we simple changed the sign to + because of y=mx+b but in another equation
-x+3y=-6
(after dividing all by 3)
the answer is y= 1/3x-2
I thought it ould have been +2?
why is are the answers to these slope intercept question sometimes + and sometimes - in the answers?

Question 1000000: My question is based around 'Solving Systems of Equations by the Substitution Method'.
I understand the concept of plugging in the x or y value into the one or the other equation but for some (very frustrating) reason whenever I follow these steps I don't come out with the right answer. I will list two below.

1. 4x-y=-1
2x+4y=13
I chose to take the top equation (4x-y=-1) and make that into -y=-4-1 and change that further by dividing by -y to get y=-4x+1. MY FIRST QUESTION is why did I have to change -1 to +1?
I then tried to plug y=-4x+1 into the 2x+4y=13 but I never get the right answer! Help?

2. x-3y=-11
6x-y=2
please help?

Question 1000504: Solving linear equations by addition
2x+2=-3y+9
3x-10=-4y
Why the heck is the 9 there on the first equation, I've tried subtracting it by the 2 in the first equation but in the end my answer is incorrect. If that 9 was gone I would be able to breeze through this problem.
