Question 442513: It's been a long time since I've done algebra and I'm trying to help a friend in another state over the phone understand what they are doing. They read a problem to me:
(26x^3y^4)/(-13xy^8)
we broke it down to
(26/-13)(x^3/x)(y^4/y^8) = -2x^2y^-4
at this point they tell me their sample shows the answer as:
(2x^2)/y^4
and I come up with (-2x^2)/y^4
What am I not remembering about getting rid of the negative sign? Their instructions are to come up with an answer with no negative signs.
Thanks.
