in reading the question you can see that the store is selling the item for 4/5 more than what they paid for the item, hence they make 4/5ths profit.
since the total price is 1and 4/5 you can divide the sale price to find the price the store paid,
6.30/1.80= 3.50
the store paid $3.50 for the item.
