Just to clarify the 6 sq subtract 1/2 cubed is on top of 7/8 plus 5/12.

You could have written it as (6^2 - (1/2)^3)/(7/8 + 5/12) and the meaning would have been very clear.
That horizontal line is the greatest invention, because it comes with two sets of invisible parenthesis, that we do not have to write when using paper and pencil (or pen).
However, you have to be very, very careful with invisible parentheses when typing or keying in calculations.
When typing into one line, you have to include those parentheses. Forgetting to include them causes tons of trouble.
