Complete the square
x%5E2+%2B+8x+%2B+%288%2F2%29%5E2+=+16+%2B+%288%2F2%29%5E2
x%5E2+%2B+8x+%2B+16+=+16+%2B+16
The left side is a perfect square
%28x+%2B+4%29%5E2+=+32
Take the square root of both sides
x+%2B+4+=+sqrt%2832%29
x+%2B+4+=+4%2Asqrt%282%29
x+=+4%2A%28-1+%2B+sqrt%282%29%29
and
x+=+4%28-1+-+sqrt%282%29%29
Note there are 2 answers since there is a
(+) and a (-) square root
I checked the 2nd answer -OK
