(or at least that is the way the program on this site interprets it; other interpretations are possible.)

I doubt that is what you intended....

In particular, if the "1/2" and "1/3" in the expression are fractional exponents, then you need to make that clear.

"8x1/2" --> 8x1%2F2

"8x^1/2" --> 8x%5E1%2F2

"8x^(1/2)" --> 8x%5E%281%2F2%29

I suspect the last is what you intended....
