In what sense do exponentials and radicals behave the same way?

When you have a esponential whose base is also an exponential,
you multiply the exponents.

%28a%5En%29%5Em=a%5E%28nm%29

When you have a root whose radicand is also a root, you
multiply the indices.

root%28n%2Croot%28m%2Ca%29%29=root%28nm%2Ca%29

That's the only time I can think of where exponentials
and radicals behave the same way.
