Question 884164: 10 > 5x - 2y
Answer by DrBeeee(684) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Given:
(1) 10 > 5x - 2y
Now add 2y to each side of (1) to get
(2) 2y + 10 > 5x
Now subtract 10 from each side of (2) and get
(3) 2y > 5x - 10
Now divide both sides of (3) by +2 and get
(4) y > (5/2)x - 5
The solution is all values of y that lie ABOVE the straight line,
(5) y = (5/2)x - 5
The line itself is not in the solution and is drawn as a dotted line when graphed.
Note: None of the above algebraic steps require us to reverse the inequality sign.
