Question 854127: The product of two consecutive integers is 19 more than their sum. Find the integers.
Answer by aditya2117(32) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let the smaller integer be x.
accordingly,
x(x + 1) = 19 + [x + (x+1)]
=> x^2 + x = 19 + 2x + 1
=> x^2 - x - 20 = 0
=> x^2 - 5x + 4x - 20 =0
=> x(x-5)+4(x-5)=0
=> (x-5)(x+4)=0
therefore, x = 5 or -4
The integers are : (5,6) & (-4,-3) [ANS.]
