: I feel really stupid asking this basic question but I am having problems understanding how to solve an equation for Y so I can grap[h and figure slope intercept. as an example I will use
2X + 5Y - 3 = 0
If I wanted to solve the equation for Y to graph the line, how do I do this. I have been away from math for over 30 years now and am returing to college. I dont remember any of this and am having problems getting the idea. PLEASE help in any way possible.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2X+5Y-3=0 YOU NEED TO CHANGE THIS EQUATION TO THE LINE EQUATION FORM Y=mX+b WHER m=SLOPE & b=Y INTERCEPT.
2X+5Y-3=0
5Y=-3X+3 NOW DIVIDE BOTH SIDES OF THE EQUATION BY 5 THUS:
Y=-3X/5+3/5 NOW YOU HAVE A SLOPE (m)=-3/5 & THE Y INTERCEPT (b)=3/5 or the point (0,3/5).
THE GRAPH FOLLOWS:+graph%28+300%2C+200%2C+-6%2C+5%2C+-10%2C+10%2C+y+=+-3x%2F5+%2B3%2F5%29+ (graph 300x200 pixels, x from -6 to 5, y from -10 to 10, y = -3x/5 +3/5).
sometimes it helps to find the x interceopt also by setting y=0 & solving for x thus:
5*0=-3x/5+3/5
-3x/5=-3/5 now divide both sides by -3/5:
x=1 or the point (1,0)
