You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Please help. I am stuck on solving linear systems of equations using substitution.
y = -3%2F5x - 2%2F5
-6x + 5y = -8
Substitute y with -3%2F5x - 2%2F5
:
-6x + 5(-3%2F5x - 2%2F5) = -8; big mistake here should b a -6
multiply inside the brackets by 5
-6x + (-15%2F5x - 10%2F5) = -8
Reduce the fraction eliminates the denominators
-6x + -3x - 2 = -8
-9x = -8 + 2
-9x = -6
x = -6/-9
x = 2%2F3
:
Find y using the 1st equation
y = -3%2F5x - 2%2F5
substitute -2 for x
y = -3%2F5(2/3) - 2%2F5
y = -6%2F15 - 2%2F5
y = -2%2F5 - 2%2F5
y = -4%2F5
:
:
See if this checks out in the 2nd equation
-6x + 5y = -8
Substitute for x and y
-6(2/3) + 5(-4%2F5) = -8
-4 - 4 = -8; confirms our solutions
