Question 29187: I have such a difficult time with these types of problems. All assistance is greatly appreciated.
A salesperson receives a fixed salary plus a percentage of all sales. The linear equation y = 0.05x + 500 describes the weekly salary, y, in dollars, in terms of weekly sales, x, also in dollars.
a. Use the formula to find the weekly salary for sales of $0, $1, $2, $3, $4, $5, $100, and $1000.
b. What is the slope of this equation? What does it represent in this situation?
c. What is the y-intercept of this equation? What does it represent in this situation?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
JUST PUT X=0,1,2,3,4..ETC...IN THE GIVEN FORMULA FOR Y=0.05*X+500..FOR EXAMPLE
X=0......Y=0.05*0+500=500
X=1......Y=0.05*1+500=500.05
...................................
X=100....Y=0.05*100 +500=5+500=505
X=1000...Y=0.05*1000+500=50+500=550
YOU CAN PLOT A GRAPH WHICH WILL LOOK AS FILLOWS
b. What is the slope of this equation? What does it represent in this situation?
AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE GRAPH AND THE EQUATION..SLOPE IS 0.05..THE COEFFICIENT OF X (0.05 HERE)DIVIDED BY COEFFICIENT OF Y (1 HERE)
c. What is the y-intercept of this equation? What does it represent in this situation?
AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE GRAPH AND THE EQUATION THE Y INTERCEPT IS 500...IT IS THE VALUE OF Y WHEN X=0.
