Question 184941: I have to graph 3x + 2 = 5x - y. I can do some, like I already did y = 3x - 5 but I don't understand how to one like this. This is more difficult and am not sure about doing both sides????? I am in an online college so this is not from our text book. I guess because the answers are in the back!!! You can put this solution on YOUR website! I have to graph 3x + 2 = 5x - y.
Follow some simple algebra rules and put it in the general (y=) form
3x + 2 = 5x - y
:
subtract 3x from both sides
2 = 5x - 3x - y
;
Add y to both sides
y + 2 = 2x
;
subtract 2 from both sides
y = 2x - 2
:
Now it is in the form you are familiar with, plot it and it should look like this
