Question 175228: Where do I look to get info about x-intercepts and y-intercepts of f?
Here is the question I am having problem on
Find the x-and y-intercepts of f.
f(x)=(x-1)(x-8)(x+1)^2
also.....
Inverse.
If the following defines a one to one function, find the inverse.
f(x)=x^2-8
I need help to figuer this out....Please

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
"Find the x-and y-intercepts of f.
f(x)=(x-1)(x-8)(x+1)^2
"

X-Int: x-1=0, x-8=0, (x+1)^2=0 -----> x=1, x=-1, and x=8

Y-Int: f(0)=(0-1)(0-8)(0+1)^2=(-1)(-8)(1)^2=8(1)=8

So answers are

x-intercepts: 1,-1,8
y-intercept: 8

Graph x^2-8

Graph fails horizontal line test, so not one-to-one (inverse not possible).
