Question 148817: I keep getting different answers, either 0 and -6, or -6 and 0
What am I doing wrong?
Find the coordinates of the x-intercept. -x - 2y = 6
Please help,
Ellen

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Ellen,
What was the "equation", "graph", or problem? We need to see that.
Based on your "subject" reference to "coordinate system", I assume you have a graph.
To find the "intercept", simply look along the y-axis. Wherever the line crosses it, that will be your y-intercept. AND, the coordinates for x HAS to be 0. Therefore, I would suspect that your coordinates are (0,-6)

Bill

You can put this solution on YOUR website! If you want the x-intercept, you would want y to be zero (since the x-intercept is whatever x is when y is zero). So whichever coordinates in the graph that have y as zero would be x-intercepts. Therefore, your x-intercept would be (-6,0)
