The metal sphere's diameter is 12x that of a smaller ball.

Volume of a sphere is directly proportional to the cube of its radius/diameter, so you can make 12^3 = 1788 smaller balls.

Note that you can use the formula for the volume of a sphere and obtain the same answer, but with some intuition you don't need to use it.
