Question 896465: five numbers are represented by a b c d and e. the average of a, b, and c is 8. the average of a b c d and e is 7.2. Given that e is twice d, find the value of e
Answer by JulietG(1812)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a + b + c = 24 (8 * 3)
a + b + c + d + e = 36 (5 * 7.2)
Therefore, d + e = 12 (36-24)
E = 2D
D + e = 12
d + 2D = 12
3D = 12
D = 4
If D is 4, then E is 8
