Question 223333: Half the students in a class are 14 years, one third are 15 and the remainder are 13. Is the mean age greater than or less than the median age? I am having an argument with my grandson about this one. He is saying the mean is 14...I am saying that you cannot figure this out without knowing the total number of students in the class. Who is right?? Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Half the students in a class are 14 years, one third are 15 and the remainder are 13. Is the mean age greater than or less than the median age? I am having an argument with my grandson about this one. He is saying the mean is 14...I am saying that you cannot figure this out without knowing the total number of students in the class. Who is right??

May I suggest you assume the total number of students is 60.
Then 30 are 14 yrs old
20 are 15 yrs old
10 are 13 years old.
------
From that you can figure out the median and the mean.
