Question 174048: Im just starting out with algebra so forgive me. Can you show me how to simplify and get the value of x (without using a graph)
5/(x+2)=3/x

The answer is x=3
Im not sure how to work with fractions when the denominator is the unknown + a number.

Solve for x:
5%2F%28x%2B2%29+=+3%2Fx Multiply both sides by x.
5x%2F%28x%2B2%29+=+3 Next, multiply both sides by (x+2).
5x+=+3%28x%2B2%29 Simplify the right side.
5x+=+3x%2B6 Subtract 3x from both sides.
2x+=+6 Finally, divide both sides by 2.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
5%2F%28x%2B2%29=3%2Fx clear the denominator on the right side. Multiply both sides by x
5x%2F%28x%2B2%29+=+3 clear the denominator on the left side y multiplying both sides by (x+2)
5x+=+3%2A%28x%2B2%29 expand using distribution
5x+=+3x+%2B+6 isolate like terms (subtrsct 3x from both sides)
2x+=+6+ isolate x by dividing both sides by 2
x+=+3
