Complementary means they add up to 90 degrees
given:
+T+%2B+U+=+90+
+T+-+U+=+12+
Add the equations
+2T+=+102+
+T+=+51+
and, since
+T+%2B+U+=+90+
+51+%2B+U+=+90+
+U+=+90+-+51+
+U+=+39+
The angles are 51 and 39 degrees
