the supplement of an angle is 16 less than 3 times the angle, find the angle
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let x be the angle (in degrees).
Then the supplement to this angle is 180-x degrees,
and we write the given part as an equation
    180-x = 3x - 16.
Then we simplify and solve this equation
    180 + 16 = 3x + x
     196     =    4x
       x     =    196/4
       x     =     49 degrees.    ANSWER
