Question 430834: I'm trying to help my niece with an algebra problem that has both of us stumped...
(s+t)(s-t)(s+t)(s-t)
The answer provided in her book is:
s^4-2t^2s^2t^2
I can't even get close to this answer. I got the s^4 and think I got the s^2 and t^2, but I can't figure out the -2t^2.
If you can tell me what I'm doing wrong, I'd appreciate it.
I came up with:
(s)(s)(s)(s) = s^4
(t)(-t)(t)(-t) = t^2
I am so confused right now, I don't know what to do. It's been years since I had Algebra.

I am at a loss to set this one up in formulas.
I get the rate/minute idea but get lost setting up an equation to get the answer.
Thank you.
A fire engine starts pumping water at 9:20 am at the rate of 800 gallons per minute. Another fire engine, pumping at the rate of 1,000 gallons per minute, starts at 9:30 am. At what time will the 2 engines have pumped the same number of gallons?

Question 438818: Solve the system by elimination
0.5x + 2y = 2.25
3x + 12y = 13.5
If the system is dependent, use a to represent any real number.
Can you please help me solve this? I came up with the answer: (a, 0.5a + 2.5) but it is saying that it is incorrect.

Question 442727: Determine whether the given simplex tableau is in final form. If so, find the solution to the associated regular linear programming problem. If not, find the pivot element to be used in the next iteration of the simplex method.
1. x y u v P | Constant
-------------|---
1 1 1 0 0 | 6
1 0 -1 1 0 | 2
-------------|---
0 0 5 0 1 | 30
I know that the simplex tableau is in final form because there are no negative numbers to the left of the vertical line in the last row. The thing I don't know is how to find the solution to the associated regular linear programming problem.
