Question 756766: 4x - N = 24
----------------
4x - N = 24
I have submitted this in the algebraic solver but it just simplifies, to zero...isn't there a
step-by-step method that utilizes the answer "24" and the coefficient of x = "4", to solve
the equation, and produce, "9" for the variable "x" and 12 equals "N"...
I know that their must be a way of balancing and finding the result, I sense that there may be,
though perhaps there are other (even irrationals) other values that solve/simplify...."6" is the significant
common factor-of the actual values, that is 36, 24 & 12, this allows me to solve the equation in my head...
ok i'm confused. thank you for help if you have the time.
I am using a good algebra book but it doesn't deal with equations, with a term with a coefficient
"4x" and a variable "n" in this case....
4x - N = 24
---------------------
when I put this equation into the algebra simplifier, it gives me back
4x - N - 24 = 0
this doesn't really solve the equation - and it seems like there should be a way
to solve this, given "4x" and the solution value = "24"
sincerely & thanks so much!!!

You can put this solution on YOUR website! 4x - N = 24
This equation cannot be solved without more information.
There are two unknowns(variables) in the equation so we need two equations in order to solve for x and N.
If we knew what x or N was then we could solve for the other unknown.
