y = 24 + 8x
-38 = 24 + 8x --> subtract 24 from both sides
-62 = 8x --> divide both sides by 8
x = -62/8

x = -31/4 or -7.75

y=24+8x
-38=24+8x
24+8x=-38
8x=-38-24
8x=-62
x=-62/8
x=-31/4
