Question 613837: An airplane flying against the wind travels 242 miles in the same time that it can travel 253 miles with the wind. If the wind sped is 15 miles per hour, what is the speed of the airplane in still air ? Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source):
Distance against wind 242
Distance with wind 253
Time = same equate the time against with time with current
t=d/r
242 /(x- 15 )= 253 /(x+ 15 )
242 *(x+ 15 )= 253 *(x- 15 )
242 x + 3630 = 253 x -3795
242 x -253 x = -3795 + -3630
-11 x = -7425
/ -11
x= 675 mph
