30-10i+6i-2i^2
30-4i+2
32-4i
but the book's answer is 11-i. Can you please explain to me step by step how to reach this point? Thanks!!!

What you did, you MULTIPLIED the complex numbers together, and you did it right I might add. The problem says to ADD the complex numbers, and all you have to do is combine like terms.

5+6 = 11 and i - 2i = -i.

Final answer is 11-i.
