Question 31075: how do I use substitution to solve the linear system for
X + 3/4y = 3/4
2y = 4x + 16

by the way its not from a text book

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Try to get the X or Y variable isolated on one side.
So you could do-
x=3%2F4-3%2F4y
then plug it into the other equation
2y=4%283%2F4-3%2F4y%29
distribute
2y=4-3y
add 3y to both sides
5y=4
and divide by five
y=5%2F4
Then plug it back into the first equation.
x%2B%283%2F4%29%2A%285%2F4%29=+3%2F4
multiply
x%2B15%2F16=3%2F4
subtract 15/16 from both sides
x=3%2F16
OR YOU COULD GO THE OTHER WAY AND WORK OUT X AND THEN Y. (this one showed first y and then 'plugged in' x)
