My understanding is the linear combination method is also called the elimination method, this might help with your research as Gauss-jordan developed this method I believe. I looked online as well, and tried the encyclopedia, yes there are books still, you know they have pages. ha ha ha, anyway, from what I understand, and I could be wrong, but everything points toward the linear combination method being called the elemination method as well. If not, you might try to look up Cholesky, he developed the decomposition method for linear algebra. These 2 would be my best guess, with Gauss-Jordan being my first choice.
