You can put this solution on YOUR website! A professor started a project with a group of students, 60% of whom were boys. Due to some unavoidable reasons, six girls couldn't turn up so the professor had to make some changes in the group. He admitted six boys. In doing so, the percentage of boys in the project increased by 75%. Find the number of boys and girls involved inthe project initially.
---------------
Let initial number of students be "x".
# of boys is 0.6x
# of girls is 0.4x
--------------------------
Adjusted numbers:
boys = 0.6x+6
girls = 0.4x-6
-------------------------
EQUATION:
0.6x+0.75*0.6x = 0.6x+6
1.75(0.6x)= 0.6x+6
1.05x= 0.6x+6
0.45x = 6
x = 13 1/3
----------------
This cannot be a reasonable answer for the problem.
