You can put this solution on YOUR website!

x = number of pennies
x = number of nickels
x = number of dimes
For each coin type, x is the same number

1x = value from the pennies
5x = value from the nickels
10x = value from the dimes
values are in cents

1x+5x+10x = 16x = total value
Set this equal to 144 cents ($1.44) and solve for x

16x = 144
x = 144/16
x = 9
The wallet has 9 pennies, 9 nickels, and 9 dimes

A = 9 pennies = 9 cents
B = 9 nickels = 9*5 = 45 cents
C = 9 dimes = 9*10 = 90 cents
A+B+C = 9+45+90 = 144 cents = 144/100 = $1.44

The answers are confirmed.

---------------
Each "set" of a penny, a nickel and a dime is 16 cents.
144/16 = 9 of each.
