You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let +x+ = the unknown number
given:
+6+%2F+%28+x+-+1+%29+=+15+%2F+%28+2x+%29+
Multiply both sides by +2x%2A%28+x+-+1+%29+
+2x%2A6+=+15%2A%28+x+-+1+%29+
+12x+=+15x+-+15+
+3x+=+15+
+x+=+5+
----------------
check the answer:
+6+%2F+%28+5+-+1+%29+=+15+%2F+%28+2%2A5+%29+
+6+%2F+4+=+15+%2F+10+
+3%2F2+=+3%2F2+
OK

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

let the number be x
1 less than a number is:x-1
twice a number is:x-1
if 6 divided by x-1 gives the same result as 15 divided by x-1, we have
6%2F%28x-1%29=15%2F2x ...solve for x; first cross multiply
6%2A2x=15%28x-1%29
12x=15x-15
15=15x-12x
15=3x
x=15%2F3
x=5
