You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a cashier has 25 coins consisting of nickels dimes and quarters with a value of $4.90.If the number of dimes is 1 less than twice the number of nickels how many of each coin does she have?
let x=number of nickels
2x-1=number of dimes
25-x-(2x-1)=25-x-2x+1=26-3x=number of quarters
.05x+.10(2x-1)+.25(26-3x)=4.90
.05x+.20x-.10+6.5-.75x=4.90
-.50x=4.90+.10-6.5
.50x=1.5
x=3
2x-1=5
26-3x=17
number of nickels=3
number of dimes=5
number of quarters=17
