Each quarter is worth 15 cents more than each dime. Since the numbers of quarters and dimes is the same, the number of dimes or quarters is 3 dollars divided by 15 cents: 300/15 = 20.

So Ted has 20 dimes ($2) and Bill has 20 quarters ($5).

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let +n+ = number of coins Bill has
+n+ = number of coins Ted has also
----------------------------------------
Value of Bill's coins is:
+10n+
Value of Ted's coins is:
+25n+
-----------------------------
+25n+=+10n+%2B+300+ ( in cents )
+15n+=+300+
+n+=+20+
---------------
Ted has:
+25n+=+25%2A20+
+25n+=+500+
Ted has $5.00
----------------------
check:
Bill has:
+10n+=+10%2A20+
+10n+=+200+
and
+500+-+200+=+300+
Ted has $3.00 more than Bill
