Question 1073049: You realize that more than 8000 gallons per year was a lot of water to waste with a leaky faucet. You fixed your faucet so that it now takes 11 minutes longer to fill a cup of water than it did when it leaked 1 fluid ounce 30 seconds. How many gallons will the faucet waste in 1 year?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If the faucet leaked 1 fluid ounce every 30 seconds, then it leaked 1 cup every 30 x 8, or 240 seconds, or 4 minutes. It now takes 11 minutes longer than it used to, or 1 cup every fifteen minutes. And 8000 gallons=128000 cups. So:
4/15=n/128000
15n=512000
n=34133.333 cups or 2133.333 gallons every year. ☺☺☺☺
