Question 482638: The sun is shining and I am on a hill. I want to measure the height of a tree downhill from me, using my one-meter stick, and a tape measure for measuring shadows. What do I do to take the slope of the hill into account?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The trick here is to subtract the tangent of the slope from the tangent you obtain from the measurement of the angle to the tree top.
The best way to do this would probably to use a contour map and determine the rise of the property, divide this by the distance to the tree to obtain your tangent of the slope of the ground.
Cleomenius.
