Question 38257: if the midpoints of the sides of a triangle are joined, is the area of the determined triangle half the area of the original trianle? i worked it for an isosceles triangle and it didn't come to half the area, but i dont know if it works for the other triangles

The determined triangle is actually equal to 1/4 the area of the larger triangle...if you join the midpoints of two sides, it is called the median of triangle and equal to 1/2 the parallel and opposite side...since it is half as high and half as wide, it is 1/4 the area...
