Question 949070: A train traveled 90 miles in 1.5 hours. At the same rate how long will it take the train to travel 330 miles.
a. Use proportions to solve and show your work with units.
b. Solve using d=rt.
c. Did you get the same solution?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! A train traveled 90 miles in 1.5 hours.
It travels 330 miles in 330*1.5/90=5.5 hours
Speed=90/1.5=60 miles/hour
Time taken to travel 330 miles=distance/speed=330/60=5.5 hours
We get the same answer in both cases.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! A: RATIO: 90 mi is to 330 mi as 1.5 hours is to x:
90 mi/330 mi=1.5 hr/x Multiply each side by 330x miles
(90 mi)x=(1.5 hr)(330 mi) Divide each side by 90 miles
x=1.5 hr(330 mi)/90 mi=495 hr/90=5.5 hrs
B: Using d=rt
d=rt
r=d/t=90 mi/1.5 hr=60 mi/hr
t=d/r=330 mi/60 mi/hr=5.5 hrs

You can put this solution on YOUR website! a. Use proportions to solve and show your work with units.
A proportion is the equality of two or more ratios.
d, miles known
t, time known
-
s, miles known
x, time UNKNOWN
-
If d/t is a constant, and s is based THAT constant, then you have a proportion:
You can solve for x,.....

Note that YOUR value for r would be .

hours.
--
You can work with the formula, x=rt this way.
x, distance
r, rate of travel
t, time
find t.

;
I use here x for distance.
