Question 477581: A plane can travel 910 miles with a 35mph tailwind in the same time it can travel 760 miles with a 40mph headwind. How fast can the plane travel with no wind resistance? I just need a formula and I would try to figure it on my own thank you so much
Hi,
Note: D = r*t OR t = D/r
Let s represent how fast can the plane travel with no wind resistance
910/(s+35mph) = 760/(s - 40mph) |Cross multiply to solve for s
910(s-40) = 760(s+35)
150s = 63000
s = 420mph
