difference in average speed = 55-40 = 15 mph
time = 5 hours
Distance = Time * speed
Distance apart = 5*15 = 75 miles

Hello,
One way to figure this out is multiply both by 5 hours which gives us:
200 miles traveled by the 40 mph car
275 miles traveled by the 55 mph car
So we can see the second auto is 75 miles further.
