You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Together, they can to 1/12 of the job in a minute. One person does 1/30 in a minute. The unknown person does 1/x in a minute. To find out how much they do together, add:
1%2Fx+%2B+1%2F30+=+1%2F12
Find a common denominator by multiplying each number by the LCD: 360x:
360x%2Fx+%2B+360x%2F30+=+360x%2F12
Simplify:
360+%2B+12x+=+30x
Subtract 12x from each side:
360%2B12x-12x=30x-12x
Simplify:
360=18x
Divide each side by 18:
360%2F18=18x%2F18
20=x
If the second person can do 1/20 of the job in one minute, he can do the entire job in 20 minutes.
Check: 1/20 + 1/30 = 1/12
