Question 279805: Hi, I play a game on my itouch that involes this math problem, and Ive done these equations before, but a long time ago. I was just wondering if someone could tell me how to solve this problem, or solve it for me because Im really stuck. All i really need is like an equation for this, not really a walkthrough. Id really appricate it if someone could help me asap :).
Heres the question:
Train #0 departs the station.
Train #1 departs the station one minute after Train #0
Train #2 Departs the station two minutes after Train #1
Train #3 departs the station three minutes after Train #2 and so on...
How many minutes after the departure of Train #0 will Train #100 depart?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! you need to sum the numbers one through one hundred
there is a straight forward pattern
1 + 100 = 101
2 + 99 = 101
3 + 98 = 101 ___ get the picture?
there will be 50 pairs (100/2)
the general equation for the summation of the first n terms of an arithmetic sequence is ___ s = [n(a1 + an)] / 2
___ a1 is the first term, an is the nth term
