You can put this solution on YOUR website!
this is a direct proportion problem 30%2F60=5%2Fx same as 1%2F2=5%2Fx cross multiply x=10 minutes

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
30 miles per hour / 60 = 1/2 mile per minute = 1 mile every 2 minutes.
if he traveled 5 miles, then he traveled 5 * 2 minutes which means he traveled 10 minutes.
-----
i converted to minutes first.
-----
i could have done in hours first and then converted to minutes as follows:
30 miles per hour / 6 = 5 miles every 1/6 of an hour.
he traveled 1/6 of an hour.
this is equivalent to 10 minutes.
-----
the formula to use is D = R*T
D = distance
R = rate of travel
T = time
-----
we know D and we know R and we are solving for T.
-----
D = 5 miles
R = 30 miles per hour
T = x
-----
formula becomes:
5 = 30 * x
divide both sides by 30
5/30 = x
simplify
1/6 = x
x = 1/6 hours which is the same as 10 minutes after multiplying by 60 minutes for each hour.
