You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Use the distance formula for each flight: Distance = (rate)(time)
Plane #1
Distance = (300)(t)
.
Plane #2
Distance = (450)(t)
.
Since their total distance is 2,250 miles and their time (t) will be the same, add their (rate)(time)+ (rate)(time)=2250, together:
.
300t+450t=2,250 [solve for time (t)]
470t=2250
t=2250/470
t=3 hours
.
Checking:
Plane #1
d=(300)(3)=900
Plane #2:
d=(450)(3)=1350
Adding their miles together (rate)(time) + (rate)(time) = 900+1350=2250
