Question 106613: Can you help with this please.

The volume of a cube is given by V = s^3, where s is the length of a side. Find the length of a side of a cube if the volume is 800 cm3. Round the answer to three decimal places.
I got this 800*800*800=s*s*s so 5.120=s
Thank You

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You have the right idea, but I'm not sure where you got s=5.120 from.

s%5E3=800 Start with the given equation

root%283%2Cs%5E3%29=root%283%2C800%29 Take the cube root of both sides. This will undo the exponent of 3

s=root%283%2C800%29 Take the cube root of s%5E3 to get s
s=9.283 Take the cube root of 800 to get 9.283

So the side length is s=9.283

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
s = cube rt (800)
s = [cube rt (8)]
s = 2
or
s = 9.283177...

You can check your answer by cubing 5.12
%285.12%29%5E3+=+134.22 so that can't be correct, can it? You want the answer to be 800 as in:
s%5E3+=+800 or
s%2As%2As+=+800 What you have to do is to find the cube root of 800 whcih can be done on any good calculator.
%28800%29%5E%281%2F3%29+=+9.283 to the nearest thousandth.
s = 9.283 cm.
Check:
%289.283%29%5E3+=+799.954 very close!
