Question 1046360: Sophie and Claire are having a foot race. Claire is given a 100 foot Headstart. If Sophie is running at 5 ft./s and Claire is running at 3 ft/s...
a. After how many seconds will Sophie catch Claire?
b. If the race is 500 feet who wins? Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source):
a. How long would it take someone to cover 100 feet at 2 feet per second?
b. The winner of the race is the one that takes the least amount of time. Time is distance divided by speed. Divide the distance Sophie has to run by her speed (remember, Sophie's distance is 100 feet greater than Claire's), and divide the distance Claire has to run by her speed. The one with the smaller result is the winner.
