You can put this solution on YOUR website! If two friends are hiking towards each other on a 17.5 mile hike.
One walks 2 2/3 mile an hour and the other 2 1/3 mike n hour.
When will they meet? Hour and mile?
:
Let t = time for them to meet
When they meet, the sum of their distances will be 17.5 mi,
change their speeds to improper fractions
Write a distance equation, dist = speed * time
: t + t = 17.5
multiply by 3 to get rid of those annoying fractions
8t + 7t = 3(17.5)
15t = 52.5
t = 52.5/15
t = 3.5 hrs for them to meet
Find the distance each walked, they should add up 17.5 (3.5) = 9.33 mi (3.5) = 8.17 mi
------------------------
total distance: 17.5
