the area of the square is 16 * 16 = 196 square units.

the radius of the semi-circle is 8.
this is equal to 1/2 times the diameter which is 16.
the area of the semi-circle is 1/2 * pi * 8^2 = 32 * pi square units.

total area is equal to 196 + 32 * pi square units.
this is approximately equal to 296.53 square units.

It appears that we have a semicircle over a square.
The area of the square is 16*16 = 256
The area of the semicircle is %281%2F2%29%2A%28pi%29%2816%2F2%29%5E2
since the radius of the semicircle is 1/2 of the diameter of 16.
%281%2F2%29%2A%28pi%29%2816%2F2%29%5E2 =
%281%2F2%29%2A%28pi%29%288%29%5E2
%281%2F2%29%2A%28pi%29%2A64
%28pi%29%2A32
So the total area is 256+%2B+32%28pi%29
